Learn how to blog with our one-day blogging course for beginners.
This is an intensive class where you’ll learn the essentials of blogging and blog writing. By the end, you’ll have a good understanding of what you need to do to carve out your own niche on the net.
We also have time in the day to introduce and familiarise you with the world’s most popular blogging software – WordPress.
How to start a free blog and make it successful (Blogging 101)
This is an intensive one day course where you’ll learn blogging essentials:
- how blogs work
- the elements that will make your blog successful
- what to blog about (that people will want to read)
- how to get ideas for blog posts
- how to plan your posts
- the different types of blogs (it’s not just about writing)
- how to find readers and build community
- how to use social media to promote your content
- how to get your blog posts up in google searches
- how to use your stats to show what’s working and what’s not
- how to deal with comments (and problem commenters)
- an intro to how bloggers earn a living from their blog
- an intro to the most popular blogging software and how to use it*
How we teach the blogging course
Class sizes are small so you’ll be able to talk directly to your instructor and get one on one instruction during the day.
The day includes practical tips, useful exercises, and world leading examples. We also provide access to videos and guides to help you keep learning long after the course is over.
* The technical stuff
Whilst the course is mainly about how to succeed, we also provide an introduction to the most popular free blogging software – WordPress.
No technical knowledge is needed for this course (or to start a blog.) If you’re comfortable surfing the internet and writing a Word document you’ll be ready.

Think you’re not a great writer?
Being able to write helps with blogs, but you don’t have to be a brilliant writer. Some successful blogs use photos, videos or audio rather than lots of words. On the day we’ll show you some good examples.
Who’s teaching the blogging course?
Phil Stubbs has been blogging since 2007 and began teaching blogging at University in 2009. The podcast from his blog has reached number 4 in the ‘News & Politics’ section of the itunes store. Phil is the principal trainer and Director of the Media School.
His experience is a mix of working in leading ad agencies, teaching marketing communication at university, and running social media projects. All up 10 years in the media industry, 10 years teaching and the last 5 years in new media.
He’s worked on a large hotel chain and packaged goods, to small businesses, charities, creative projects and social change campaigns. (With everything from large to zero marketing budgets.)
